Pain
Settle the spinning.
We identify the trigger first. If it is BPPV, repositioning work can start calming it in that very first visit.
What We Treat
The room moves when you do not. So you sit up slowly, skip the top shelf, drive less. Dizziness is not something you have to live around, and it starts with finding out which kind you have.

Why It Happens
Your balance runs on three inputs: your inner ear, your eyes, and the sensors in your joints. When one of them sends a signal the other two disagree with, your brain reads it as spinning. The most common cause is BPPV, where tiny crystals in the inner ear slip into the wrong canal. Roll over, and they move, and the room moves with them.
Other causes look similar and are not the same thing at all. Inner ear inflammation. A neck that stopped moving well. Blood pressure that drops when you stand. A system that never recalibrated after an illness. Sorting out which one you have is the entire job, because the treatment for each is different. You are the one everybody else calls when something goes wrong. Which is why nobody has noticed you stopped driving at night.
The Honest Truth
Nobody regrets getting it checked early. Waiting is the part people would take back.

Early on
Prime
Vestibular rehab teaches your eyes, your inner ear and your feet to agree with each other again.
As you build
Perform
Walking, turning and reaching get practiced while your head is moving, because that is where real life happens.
Keeping it
Prevent
You leave knowing what to do if it ever returns, and how to keep your balance sharp. That is the endpoint.
My parents have had such a great experience with Joanna at YouTherapy and Wellness. My dad needs special treatment due to his medical condition and she has been truly wonderful. She is patient and encouraging with him and he really enjoys working with her.

Questions, Answered
In Connecticut, no. Direct Access means you can see a licensed physical therapist without a doctor’s referral, so you can book straight in. If anything in your evaluation belongs with a physician instead, we will tell you plainly and help you get there.
That is what the first visit is for. BPPV has a signature: short, intense spinning set off by a change in head position, very often rolling over in bed. Other causes behave differently. We run specific tests to tell them apart, because the treatment for each one is different.
Some of the testing can briefly bring the sensation on, and we say so before we start. That is how we identify which system is misfiring. After that, the exercises are dosed to challenge you without overwhelming you. You have one therapist with you the whole time, so nothing happens without a warning first.
BPPV often needs only a handful. Dizziness that comes from a balance system needing to recalibrate takes longer, so an honest answer is not a fixed number. Either way you get a plan with an endpoint, and you will always know which phase you are in and what is left.
We run a free benefits check before you commit to anything, so you know your out of pocket in advance rather than after. No guessing, and no bill you did not see coming. Ask us for the next opening and we will find you a time.
