Pain
Take the fear down first.
We start where you feel safe, calming the pain or dizziness that has you bracing before you even move.
What We Treat
You have started planning routes around handrails, and watching the floor instead of the room. Balance is trainable at any age. One cause-first evaluation tells us what is actually making you unsteady.

Why It Happens
Balance is a team effort. Your inner ear, your eyes, the sensors in your feet and ankles, and the strength in your hips all vote on where you are in space. Age, illness, surgery or a long stretch of sitting can knock out any one of them. The others cover for it quietly, until the day they cannot.
The way you walk changes to match. Shorter steps, a wider stance, less push off, more shuffle. Every one of those feels safer, and every one of them actually makes you less stable. Finding out which input dropped away is the difference between a real fix and simply being careful forever. You are the one who still shovels the walk for the neighbors. Which is exactly why nobody has looked at this yet.
The Honest Truth
You spent years being the steady one for everybody else. This is one hour, for you.
How We Fix It
Dr. Nicole Pergolotti works specifically on balance and fall risk. One therapist, one patient, every visit.

Early on
Prime
Ankle mobility, hip strength, inner ear input. We work on whichever one your evaluation showed had dropped out.
As you build
Perform
Turning, stepping over things, carrying a bag, uneven ground. Rey Abadilla also runs a group Tai Chi class built around balance and mobility.
Keeping it
Prevent
Occupational therapists Kristine Berg and Brynn Q. Lafferty can look at the home itself, so the gains hold. That is the endpoint.
Kris has been excellent therapist. She helped me a lot getting on my feet. I would recommend her to anyone always.

Questions, Answered
No. Connecticut Direct Access means you can see a licensed physical therapist without a doctor’s referral. If you are arranging this for a parent, you can call and book on their behalf. We will talk you through exactly what the first visit involves.
No. Balance is a trainable skill, and the systems behind it respond to practice well into later life. What changes with age is how quickly those systems fade when they are not used. That is an argument for starting now, not for skipping it.
It is not too late, and a fall is one of the best reasons to come in. We look at what happened, what gave way, and how your body has been compensating since. Fear of falling is part of the picture too, and we treat that as seriously as the strength.
It depends on what is causing the unsteadiness, so a fixed number would only be a guess. You get a plan with an endpoint instead, built on the four phases: Pain, Prime, Perform and Prevent. You will always know which phase you are in and what is left.
We run a free benefits check before you commit to anything, so you know your out of pocket in advance rather than after. No guessing, and no bill you did not see coming. Ask us for the next opening and we will find you a time.
