Physical Therapist, LSVT BIG Certified
Dr. Nicole Pergolotti, PT, DPT
A Division I diver who tore an ACL, rehabbed it, and decided that was the job. Nicole grew up in Milford and now works on Parkinson's, osteoporosis, stroke recovery and balance right here, as an LSVT BIG certified therapist.
She has been the patient
Nicole was a Division I diver. Then she tore her ACL.
What followed was months of rehab, from the early careful days through to getting back on the board. She spent that whole stretch on the receiving end of physical therapy, and by the end of it she had decided what she wanted to do for a living.
That is a useful thing in a therapist. She knows what week three feels like when progress has gone quiet. She knows the difference between a hard session and a session that has gone too far.
She earned her PT, DPT at Sacred Heart University.
A Milford kid, treating Milford
Nicole is a Milford, Connecticut native. She grew up here, and she came back here to practice.
Which means the walk you are worried about, the stairs at your place, the beach path you used to do every morning, she knows the actual ground you are talking about.
Balance, and staying on your feet
A lot of Nicole's work is balance and fall risk reduction.
Here is the part people underrate. Falls are not random bad luck. They are usually the end result of things that were measurable months earlier: slower reaction time, weaker hips, less ankle control, a stride that quietly got shorter.
Those are all trainable. That is the whole point of a balance and gait evaluation, and of balance therapy.
If you have started reaching for the handrail you never used to need, that is the signal. Not the first fall.
Parkinson's and MS
Nicole also works with people living with Parkinson's disease and multiple sclerosis.
Neurologic conditions change what your body will do on any given day, so the plan has to be built for that rather than fighting it. Sessions get adjusted to how you actually are that morning, and the target stays the same: keep the movement you have and take back what you can.
Nicole is now LSVT BIG certified, so people with Parkinson's can work with her through the full LSVT BIG protocol.
